SummaryUnder the direction of the Principal, the School Counselor works with students at all development levels. Individual support is provided to students on an on-going and as-needed basis. Additional supports include but are not limited to: building relationships, responding to student needs throughout the day, collaborating with staff and parents to best support a student, and distributing items to students in-need (food bags, school supplies, etc.).Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Assists students to:

  • Enhances awareness of uniqueness of self.

  • Develops appreciation for others that will enrich interpersonal relationships.

  • Builds relationships related to school and home.

  • Utilizes knowledge and skills for developing and maintaining good emotional, physical and mental health as part as responsible citizenship.

  • Develops understanding of the importance of meeting and exceeding educational proficiencies in order to function in a rapidly changing society.

  • Realizes the influence of one’s education in planning for and living a responsible, self-fulfilling life.

  • Develops appreciation for, and positive attitude toward, work.

  • Addresses the unique needs of limited English language students.

  • Addresses the unique needs of students experiencing frequent moves.

  • Enhance the school experience, personal and social development, and career/vocational decision-making by involving their families.

  • Remains readily available to students to provide support that will lead increased personal growth, self-understand and maturity.

  • Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.

  • Collaborates with staff and parents to best support students.

  • Takes an active role in interpreting the school’s objectives to students, parents and the community.

  • Demonstrates flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with all learners.

  • Creates a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and families.

  • Distributes items to students in-need i.e. food, school supplies, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in School Counseling.

  • Meets state certification/licensure standards.

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Preparation as a school counselor and training specific to working with students at risk and their families.

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.

  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.

  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to create a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students, families, and staff.

  • Consistent and punctual attendance.
