My name is Tyler Brunink and I will be the hiring manager for this QE position. I would like to write some words to explain what it is I hope to find in a QE and my management style so people who are applying can understand if the position would be a good fit for themselves and their career goals.

As this is an introductory QE role I am more interested in finding somebody that I think fits well with the current team and has a willingness to engage. I am looking for a person with high energy, high curiosity and a willingness to take risks and dive into problems that they may not fully understand yet. I am more than happy to help provide support and guidance where you feel you may need it as well.

It is important that this person is willing to interact with all levels of people including operators, engineers, tool makers, financing, warehouse, etc. I would like to state that I do not expect this person to have complete or even working understanding of these areas in a business capacity but somebody who has the willingness to be curious and engage with these various functions to understand how to execute the best solutions.

In regards to my management style. I am willing to give consideration to my employees when they need to take time off during the day to address personal matters. I do not have strict start and end times except with the expectation that customer meetings are attended. I am much more focused on the overall progress and success of a project than the specific time you show up and the hours you put in. My philosophy is that if I am asking you to regularly work more than 40 hours then I am failing at supporting you. This is a manufacturing environment where sometimes we need to come in early or stay late to get projects done on tight timelines, but if that is the case the I expect you to take another day off or to leave early when possible. I do not expect this position to be putting in over 40 hours on an average basis. That is not the type of team that I run. But the expectation is that you are willing to support a 24/7 manufacturing facility throughout the week. Having said that I was also a QE and on average I would spend no more than 45-60 minutes a week taking calls outside of the plant to help support employees who are working through issues. I want to be upfront about the expectations so they are clear to you before you take on this role. This is not a strict 8-5, but it does not average over 40 hours a week. There is some give and take in this respect as long as the consideration is not taken advantage of in either direction.

At the same time I am dedicated to helping support you in your career growth as well. I am happy to provide support and guidance in situations where you ask. I am happy to help support you obtaining professional certifications and other learning opportunities if you feel they can be helpful to your professional growth.
