This is a FULL-TIME, CONTRACTUAL position University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB), Department of Pharmacology has an exciting opportunity available for a contractual full-time Laboratory Research Technician.We are currently seeking a Laboratory Research Technician who will work with Principal Investigator and senior lab personnel to support the day-to-day operation of the laboratory. * *BENEFITS (Contractual/C2 Employee): UMB offers a comprehensivebenefits packagethat prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development. Performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain quality, stock and health of research animals 2. Performing routine general laboratory housekeeping including coordinating with Environmental Health Services (EHS) for liquid and solid waste container removal and eye wash testing 3. Monitoring laboratory equipment performance such as centrifuges, microscopes, pipettes etc. for proper function and tracking maintenance schedules. Assisting with calibrations and coordinating repairs when appropriate 4. Maintaining inventory of lab supplies, reagents, buffers and solvents and equipment. Ordering or making more when necessary 5. Performing molecular biology and neuroscience techniques in accordance with IACUC protocols including animal behavior, histological procedures such as perfusion, tissue sectioning, and staining. 6. Assisting with lab related administrative tasks including grant, protocol, software, and drug license renewals, implementing, and developing updated SOP guidelines 7. Collects, records, and enters research data. Assists in conducting research on current scientific literature. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biological or chemical science. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Two to three years of experience in a laboratory setting OTHER:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basiswith 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, materials and equipment, including animals. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
