At STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.

About the Role

We are recruiting a scientific editor to be part of this exciting new journal. They will have the unique opportunity to help shape a prominent and vibrant journal, championing their communities. The roles will report to the Editor in Chief and will contribute establishing the new journal as a sought-after venue to publish the most impactful research. They will handle submitted manuscripts, handling the peer review and all stages of the editorial process up to acceptance, as well as commission and write content. We are looking for scientists with a PhD in physics. Desirable expertise includes condensed matter, quantum information, optics and photonics, biophysics. Previous editorial experience is not essential. Candidates with sufficient experience may be hired as Senior Scientific Editors. This is a full-time role for candidates based in Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, in China. We are also hiring one editor in the US (see job R73139) and one in either the UK or The Netherlands (R73223).

Responsibilities

  • Assessing submitted research papers and handling the peer review process up to acceptance.

  • Establishing relationships with researchers and supporting them through the publication process.

  • Traveling extensively to attend conferences and visit research institutes.

  • Understanding of the needs of the international research community of authors, readers, and reviewers that the journal serves.

  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press

Requirements

  • Have a PhD in physics, ideally with a focus on condensed matter, quantum information, optics and photonics, biophysics. Post-doc experience is welcome but not required.

  • Have broad scientific interests across the scope of the journal.

  • Be a critical thinker and be willing to learn and engage with diverse areas within physics.

  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Have an interest in publishing trends and scientific communication

  • Have great teamworking skills and a collaborative mindset suited to work in a diverse global team.
