Disney Entertainment Senior Manager, HR Business Partner Production in Burbank, California

The Sr. Manager, Human Resources Business Partner, Production has overall responsibility for their client group ensuring proactive partnership, providing insight and support through sensitive topics and themes, and delivery of effective HR strategies for DGE content productions. This role will sit at the intersection of HR, ER, Production/Show Leadership and Production Executives. Reporting into the Director, Production HRBP this Sr. Manager will be asked to think broadly about how to support diverse, inclusive production workplace environments proactively and intentionally. The individual is responsible for helping shape the production employee experience, ensuring that our production populations and production/show leaders are fully supported from an HR perspective throughout the lifecycle of a production.

  • Partner with the Studio senior leadership team (Development, Current, Casting and Production Executives) and Show leaders to establish an HR strategic vision needed to support and drive inclusive, safe and respectful workplace environments.

  • Enhance the on-set experience by engaging with production leaders/executives at key steps in the lifecycle of the production, inclusive of development, training and performance management. Providing insight on trends.

  • Facilitate trainings/on-boarding sessions for writers’ rooms, cast/crew (200ppl) and leadership training to Head of Departments on a frequent basis.

  • Provide pro-active partnership to productions getting ahead of any issues that may arise such as sensitive topics. Provide continuous partnership and education by providing resources such as: RespectAbility, IllumiNative, GLAAD, Crew Helpline, EAP.

  • Understand the theme of the production and bring in support as needed such as intimacy coordinators, accessibility coordinators, and work closely with productions throughout the perspective scenes as needed. Request and read scripts as needed to understand the show better and getting ahead of anything that may arise.

  • Develop and drive DEI initiatives in partnership with Show leaders, HR/ER Leadership and with the Corporate DE&I team.

  • Provide interpretation of HR policies, practices, and procedures specific to productions.

  • Build and maintain relationships with Disney internal resources and external resources that will help provide further insight to productions.

  • Work with Employee Relations to identify trends, insights and areas of opportunity for improving the production work environment and conduct non-investigatory production environmental scans and post-production exit-interviews.

  • Collaborate with Operations team to help with any operational aspects of productions such as: data gathering, start paperwork, background checks, process flows and other operational needs. Strong collaboration with Culture Initiatives team in providing support to productions from a wellbeing and DEI/Culture perspective.

  • Facilitate the use of surveys to understand trends across productions both at an individual level and aggregate.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field of study.

  • Minimum of 7 years professional HR experience with known to work in leading teams and partnering with senior executives.

  • Strong understanding of Production environment.

  • HR Leader with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Must have the ability to navigate topics that fall under the DEI umbrella, compliance, foundational HR topics and be able to educate and provide support to productions.

  • Solid ability to train a large population of production crew and principal talent ranging from 150 individuals to 500+ in person and on zoom.

  • Ability to travel upto 25% by ground or plane.

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $163,200 to $199,400 per year and in New York, NY is $167,200 to $209,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
