Universal Health Services RECREATION THERAPIST (MS) in CLARION, Pennsylvania

Clarion Psychiatric Center offers inpatient treatment for adults with moderate to severe psychiatric problems, inpatient crisis stabilization for children and adolescents, and a Partial Hospitalization Program for school-aged children. Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has four units. Clarion Psychiatric Center is looking for a dynamic new team member. Our Recreational Therapist is responsible for providing activity and group programming for adult and child/adolescent patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Primary responsibilities include designing and providing therapeutic recreation groups to patients to assist in focusing on treatment goals. as well as providing an assessment of each patient referred for group to determine needs of service. All the while maintaining written documentation to reflect the patients’ behavior and progress.

    Qualifications

Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Art Therapy, or Social Service Field required.

Certification: Recreational Therapy Certification, Art Therapy Certification, Music Therapy Certification, or certification in relevant filed required.

Experience: One-year experience in psychiatric care preferred.

Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behaviors. CPR/HWC required. Possess excellent communication skills and ability to teach patients.

Supervision Exercised: None

Supervision Received: Director of Clinical Services

General Working Environment: Hospital setting. Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients. Works in a well-lighted and ventilated setting, is subject to frequent interruptions, and is involved with the patients and personnel throughout designated unit under varying conditions and circumstances. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B Viruses

Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to walk and stand for long periods. Able to participate in crisis prevention intervention.
