Job Overview:

Trinitas Regional Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, was established in 2000 through the consolidation of Elizabeth General Medical Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Situated in Elizabeth, NJ, the hospital serves a population across Union County, offering comprehensive healthcare across two campuses. With 554 beds, including a 120 bed long-term care facility and a 98 bed behavioral health facility, Trinitas annually treats nearly 20,000 inpatients, 70,000 emergency patients and accommodates over 450,000 outpatient visits. Trinitas is recognized for excellence across 12 Centers of Excellence, ranging from cardiology to sleep medicine. Trinitas is a Catholic teaching hospital under the oversight of the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth. The Mental Health Open Unit is a 22 bed Voluntary Behavioral Health unit at Trinitas Regional Medical Center and is located at the New Point Campus on 655 East Jersey Street. The unit admits adult patients with mental health disorders who meets the inpatient admission criteria for voluntary admission. The Nurse Manager must demonstrate the clinical, professional, leadership, and organizational skills needed to manage this Behavioral Health nursing unit.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • ASN or Nursing Diploma

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

  • Nursing Management experience

  • BSN highly preferred, MSN

  • Psychiatric-Mental Health (https://www.nursingworld.org/our-certifications/psychiatric-mental-health-nursing-certification/) certifications and/or national nursing certifications

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS through American Heart Association upon hire

  • ACLS Certification within 6 months of start date

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License or active Compact Registered Nurse License with New Jersey endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Salaried Exempt Role

  • Day Shift, 40 hours per week

  • Monday Friday, Weekends and Holidays as needed

Essential Functions:

  • The Nurse Manager provides nursing care oversight in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.

  • The Nurse Manager assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.

  • The Nurse Manager is responsible for preventing and reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.

  • The Nurse Manager is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.

  • The Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.

  • The Nurse Manager is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.

  • The Nurse Manager is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs.

  • The Nurse Manager identifies actual/potential medical/healthcare errors and suggest processes to reduce the same. Assures that staff implements appropriate pain management strategies.

  • The Nurse Manager promotes an environment which limit the use of restraints. Enforces Policy and Procedure on informed consent for care and treatment

  • The Nurse Manager intervenes to support advanced directives being honored according to the patient s wishes. Participates in the interdisciplinary approach to patient are planning

  • The Nurse Manager demonstrates, and assures the same for staff, competence in emergency response procedures, including infant abduction. Demonstrates knowledge of criteria to identify victims of abuse and neglect

  • The Nurse Manager assesses age-specific safety issues on units. Assists staff in planning/providing care/ treatment which considers age-specific issues including: skin care normalization activities, concentrated treatments/rest time, etc.

  • The Nurse Manager coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Coordinating plans of care with professionals in other disciplines. Coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: - Utilizing available institutional and community resources needed for quality patient care.

  • The Nurse Manager coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Collaborating with physicians by: Assuring that patient care planning and delivery are in concert with the medical plan of care. Making patient rounds when possible. Coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Serving as a resource to other units in area(s) of specialty.

  • The Nurse Manager coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Communicating and recording pertinent information to appropriate individuals and/or departments/ agencies that will provide the next level of care. Coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Utilizing admission and discharge criteria to facilitate the transfer of patients to the appropriate level of care.

  • The Nurse Manager coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Identifying needs and makes appropriate referrals to support service across the continuum. Coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Collaborating with the health care team in implementing the plan of care from admission to discharge.

  • The Nurse Manager coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: -Reporting all incidents observed or discovered to risk management. Coordinates/Integrates inter/intradepartmental services by: Collaborating with materials management to assure that proper stock levels are maintained.

  • The Nurse Manager develops/implements policies and procedures that guide/support services by: In collaboration with others, establishing the nursing care program for patients and standards of nursing practice, which reflects current trends. Broadly assessing the overall environment and patient care management. Evaluating compliance with nursing practice standards and with policies and procedures.

Develops/implements policies and procedures that guide/support services by: Ensuring that a systematic plan for assessing the nursing needs of patients is implemented.
