Special Information

  • This position is posted as Commercial Kitchen Surface, Sealant, and Paint Specialist, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Specialized Equipment Mechanic, Senior.
  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
  • Maintenance personnel participate in a mandatory weekly on-call rotation in order to minimize downtime for campus dining facilities.
  • This position primarily works in commercial kitchen environments and related food service areas.

Job Description

NAU Dining Maintenance is part of the Campus Services and Activities department and supports over 30 dining locations on the NAU campus as well as the High-Country Conference Center. This position reports to the Commercial Kitchen Maintenance Supervisor and works closely with campus food service staff to install and maintain the equipment, kitchens, storage space, and eating areas for the NAU Campus Dining program.

Paint/Food Grade Surface Repair and Replacement - 50%

  • Matches and applies paint and other finishes to various surfaces including:
    • Food grade solid surface
    • Surface prep material repair
    • Basic tile/grout repair and replacement
    • Sealant application
    • General paint application
  • Field, prioritize, and perform service support requests from an on-line work order system and in-person inspections.

Equipment Install, Repair, and Replace - 30%

  • This position is a member of the Campus Dining maintenance team and will perform repairs for the NAU Campus Dining program with special consideration for projects involving:
    • Repair of walls and ceilings
    • Flooring, furniture, and millwork
    • Surfaces in kitchens and public dining areas.
  • Participate in on-call assignments and weekend maintenance rotations as assigned.
  • Maintain inventory and proper maintenance of tools and instrumentation.

Special Event Support - 10%

  • Assists with temporary food service equipment set-up including but not limited to temporary electricity, water, cooking gas, lighting, refrigeration, mobile food service units, and sanitation stations as requested by Campus Services operations staff at various indoor and outdoor locations across campus.

Safety - 5%

  • Maintain manufacturer repair certifications, county health code awareness, and certification in appropriate OSHA standards.
  • Maintain inventory and proper maintenance of tools and instrumentation including proper disposal of unusable paints, sealants, or caulking.
  • Immediately correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any non-correctable conditions to supervisor immediately.

Other - 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • During the winter some snow removal will be required.

Minimum Qualificati ns

  • High school diploma.
  • 1-3 years of painting experience, dining service or commercial kitchen field experience.
  • Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver\'s license.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Experience with low-voltage and control system electronics related to refrigeration.
  • Experience with kitchen exhaust systems and make-up air system.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted health code requirements as related to site conditions and equipment in kitchens and serving areas (Coconino County preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of a wide range of finish and sealant application techniques.

Knowledge of proper installation procedure for solid surface and stainless counters and equipment.

Skilled in matching, mixing, and applying paint and other finishes to various surfaces.

Skilled in drywall repair, texturing, and painting.

Skilled in repair and/or replacement of floor, wall, and ceiling tiles.
