GE Aerospace Senior Engineer - Product Safety in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Description Summary

The Senior Engineer - Product Safety will help bring to market our next generation of industry leading products across the GE Aerospace Avionics and Electrical Power portfolio (e.g. Navigation and Guidance, Computing and Networking, Electrical Power Generation).

In this role, you will work with a cross-functional leadership team to support the development and execution of the Safety organization’s strategic vision, enabling the consistent execution of safety activities for civil and military products throughout the entire product life-cycle. You will be a recognized expert and leader within the specialized field of Safety engineering, demonstrating passion for system design, safety risk management, and mentoring others.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with leadership to define and implement a safety program plans for large, complex development programs across the GE Aerospace Avionics and Electrical Power product areas

  • Work with Safety leadership to represent and advance the interests of the safety community with executive leadership, including both technical and organizational initiatives

  • Support technical education in the Safety Engineering discipline

  • Support maintaining a framework for developing early-career engineers in the Safety engineering discipline

  • Promote a robust safety culture across the varied product area engineering teams

  • Provide strategic technical leadership in support of resolving complex safety considerations in all phases of a product’s life-cycle (e.g. development, test, and operation)

  • Support senior members of the safety team in leading their projects to successful outcomes

  • Steer future technology roadmaps by participating in technology / methodology trade studies and research / development programs

  • Participate in industry working groups to influence technology/industry/regulatory trends.

  • Take an active leadership role in Design Board(s) and/or the internal technical community.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in the aerospace industry

Desired Characteristics

  • 10 years of related experience in the aerospace industry with direct experience in Safety engineering

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Proven ability to analyze data to identify process improvements

  • Demonstrated ability to promote and implement change within a business

  • Demonstrated influencing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to provide mentoring and/or formal training in Safety Engineering to engineers at all levels of experience

  • Ability to successfully facilitate multiple efforts or projects to meet project deliverables

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present technical data to executive leadership

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated competency in using standard business software and tools
