Position Overview

The Associate Director, Human Resources (HR) Business Partner based in Irvine, CA will be aligned with R&D client groups and is expected to influence and support business decisions and ensure the people strategy supports the business strategy. The HR Business Partner’s responsibilities will include talent development and engagement, organizational effectiveness, leading through change, HR analytics, employee relations, performance management and partnering with talent acquisition. Responsibilities may be expanded to include additional client assignments.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

  • Provide HR support and solution delivery of programs, products, services, and consultation for assigned clients.

  • Manage delivery of HR services in the form of talent development and engagement, organizational effectiveness, leading through change, employee relations, and performance management.

  • Work with hiring manager and Talent Acquisition to facilitate recruiting, ensure affirmative action goals and job requirements are supported. Review employment offers to ensure compensation and other terms and conditions of employment are fair, equitable and comply with all applicable company policies and guidelines.

  • Provide consultative and coaching support to managers and employees for colleague development, talent management, succession planning, performance coaching and other questions and concerns.

  • Ensure consistent interpretation, application and support of HR policies by effective communication, advice and direction to assigned client group(s).

  • Identify, develop and conduct training, development and engagement programs.

  • Participate in special projects including assistance with annual performance review process, compensation analysis, succession planning, organizational expansions, ad hoc reporting and other HR related projects.


The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:

  • An undergraduate degree in Business, HR, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Communications or a similarly relevant course of study; a graduate degree highly desirable.

  • Minimum 7 yrs. of business experience within the Human Resources function, preferably with experience in the life sciences/healthcare products industry. Preferred Skills/Qualification

  • HR work experience within a sophisticated, complex corporate environment (defined by size, geographic presence and/or organizational structure) supporting global clients.

  • A proven ability to serve as a business partner with specific experience in a variety of HR modalities.

  • Proven ability to drive organizational change and business results using reasoning abilities and sound judgment.

  • Resourceful and well organized.

  • Inclusive management style – works as a team player, good player-coach, rolls up sleeves.

  • Results-oriented management of a broad range of HR issues.

  • Business planning and project management skills with experience managing multiple projects and assignments.

  • Experience partnering with HR Centers of Excellence teams to address needs of differing business units while considering alignment with company objectives.

  • Experience and proficiency in different components of HR including: employee engagement, talent development, organization design, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and recruitment.

  • Professional knowledge of federal and state employment laws, rules and regulations related to Human Resources administration and related principles and practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices and processes in a global environment.

  • Microsoft Office and Human Resources Information System applications experience and knowledge.

  • Clear and concise communicator, both orally and in writing to audiences of varying levels.

  • Maintain confidentiality of data.

  • Ability to travel.
