Position Overview

The Associate Director, Upstream Marketing is responsible for developing the new product and innovation pipeline and product life cycle plans for the Skin Medica category, including new product strategy/ positioning and product design (new product, product evolution, claims/ indications). A key imperative is to develop a pipeline strategy that will contribute growth to the business, drive category leadership, and optimize the value of the portfolio. This position works in close collaboration with cross functional groups to impact product innovation with research and development, and flow-through processes with manufacturing. This role works closely with in-line marketing and requires frequent interaction key customers and consumers to gain insight into market trends, opportunities and unmet needs.

Main Areas ofResponsibilities

  • Createsinnovation strategy to drive market growth and portfolio optimization. Identifiesopportunities for growth via new product introduction and portfoliooptimization.

  • Developsin-depth knowledge of the market, competitive landscape and consumer andcustomer insights to inform strategy.Monitorsthe competitive landscape in order to support recommendations for initiativesand/or changes to strategies.

  • Developsclose working relationship with R&D, regulatory/legal, medical affairs,market research, operations and key opinion leaders to ensure cross functionalalignment and viable go to market strategies.

  • KOLManagement: Develops and maintains SKM KOLs, podium presenters, and SKMpresence at product ad boards and professional meetings.

  • Valuation:Develops preliminary forecast to quantify launch potential and ensureappropriate prioritization of resources. Develops final forecast (units andrevenue) and margin analysis partnering with finance and operations to ensurelaunch readiness

  • ProductDevelopment: Stewards the development and delivery of innovative products bypartnering with R&D on all aspects of product design including formulationand packaging. Partners with project management and operations to ensureadherence to timelines.

  • Product and brand positioning: Develops product positioningand branding (name, packaging, key claims, benefits); conducts market researchto inform positioning and support recommendations

  • Develops“launch toolkit” for downstream marketing activation which includes positioningand key claims / benefits. Partners with in-line marketing both at conceptinception and market activation to ensure Commercial interest is represented inall aspects of strategy.



The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:

· Seven or more years of business experience of which, at least half should be in medical device/pharmaceutical industry in a sales or marketing function

· Experience with different stages of the product life cycle

· Travel up to 20%


The below skills are attributes that may not be mandatory, but are definitely desired in the ideal candidate.

· Experience working with R&D desired

· Experience marketing aesthetic products desired


· Undergraduate degree within a relevant course of study, a graduate degree strongly preferred
