Position Overview

The Senior Manager Health Economics Outcomes Research may be located either in Irvine, CA or Madison, NJ and will work independently while under the supervision of the (Executive) Director to develop and execute outcomes research to demonstrate the value of Allergan’s products both globally and for the U.S. market. He/She develops outcomes research plans outlining the strategic approach for generating required evidence and research outputs, which may span multiple product / indications. This research includes: conduct of network meta analyses, creation of economic models (budget impact and cost effectiveness), conduct of EMR and claims analyses and observational research studies / analyses, conduct of post-hoc clinical trial analyses, development and validation of Clinical Outcome Assessment (COA) measures, and analyses of COA data. In addition, the Senior Manager leads completion of systematic literature reviews, and Global evidence dossiers and value platform development plans. The Senior Manager also supports the clinical development process, providing input into the design of clinical studies to support successful market access and brand differentiation. This is accomplished through cross-functional collaboration with internal groups including Clinical Development and Operations; Epidemiology; Regulatory Affairs; Medical Affairs; Commercial; and Pricing, Reimbursement and Market Access. He/She presents health outcomes research findings internally to Allergan and externally via the peer-reviewed process. In addition, the Senior Manager builds research relationships with key clinical and outcomes thought leaders, resulting in research collaborations to support evidence generation for publication and HTA/reimbursement submissions. Managerial responsibilities include: managing vendors, project timelines, budgets and stakeholder interactions, liaising with internal center of excellence (COE) collaborators, and assisting in the hiring, training, and development of staff/fellows.

The employee must conduct their work activities in compliance with all Allergan internal requirements and with all applicable regulatory requirements. Allergan internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives.


Preferred Skills/Qualification

At least 4 years industry related experience in outcomes research with emphasis in two or more of the following areas:

  • Development and / or validation of PRO

  • Analysis of claims databases to assess burden and cost of disease

  • Health economic models to assess the value of medical products

  • People management experience


  • Master’s degree in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) related field and 5+ years of experience conducting HEOR research

  • PharmD, BS Pharmacy, or MD + Master’s degree in related field and 3+ years of experience conducting HEOR research

  • Doctoral degree and 3+ years of experience conducting HEOR research

  • Related fields include: Health Services Research, Health Economics / Economics, Psychometrics, Health Policy, Outcomes Research and Pharmacy Administration
