Position Overview

The Associate Director, Talent Acquisition (TA Lead) – R&D, will support the Research & Development (R&D) function and will be based in Madison, NJ. It is a critical team member of the Global Talent COE and will assist with the evolution of the function and its enabling processes. The TA Lead is a strategic partner to the R&D leadership team and it’s hiring managers to understand their hiring needs, build and execute effective sourcing strategies, make available useful candidate assessment tools, and develop closing approaches with internal and external candidates that result in bringing outstanding talent into the organization. The TA Lead will proactively manage a team that executes the talent acquisition full life cycle recruiting for the R&D business it supports which includes: posting, identification and interviewing of the most qualified applicants, guidance on the selection of the best candidate, generation and the extension of the offer. They will assist in laying the ground work for executive assimilation and successful on-boarding, working closely with the strategic HR business partners and business leaders. This role will adapt and leverage Social Media to drive Talent Acquisition making best use of social media that aligns with the culture of Allergan while continuously elevating our brand in the marketplace. Leads the executive recruitment for the business unit with effective strategies, tools and programs to attract executive level top talent and when necessary, overseeing executive search firm performance. This is a high profile, high exposure position supporting executives and their leaders within the R&D organization at Allergan.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of TA resources that will execute the full life cycle recruiting process for the R&D function. This includes: assigning requisitions to team members, monitoring performance, addressing issues and providing status updates to Sr. HRBPs and Business Unit Leaders.

  • Partner with Senior leaders to design, implement, and execute talent acquisition strategies for senior-level talent. Provide guidance on selection processes and hiring decisions based on the Allergan’s Leadership model

  • Elevate the team’s skills and effectiveness to recruitment which includes educating hiring managers to source, screen and hire the right talent including a focus on diversity candidates.

  • Propose creative ideas and innovative recruiting techniques to source qualified professionals (e.g. social media, employee referrals, networks).

  • Apply effective recruiting practices to both passive and active candidates to expand the pipeline; profile candidates based on skills, fit and motivation.

  • Identify and ensure the use of sourcing strategies for diverse candidate audiences.

  • Drive and sustain internal talent mobility for critical leadership roles that is tied to GTM succession planning and high potential identification in partnership with senior HRBPs.


The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive recruitment experience.

  • Prior experience supporting or leading R&D recruiting nationally.

Preferred Skills/Qualification

The below skills are attributes that may not be mandatory but are desired in the ideal candidate.

  • Expert knowledge in full lifecycle recruitment, including thorough pre-qualification screening, interviewing and closing professional level candidates across multiple levels and disciplines

  • Demonstrated expertise sourcing, recruiting and placing talent from a multi-source pipeline including internal candidates, Internet scouring, networking, cold calling methodologies and direct application

  • Solid knowledge of legal issues and requirements of employee labor laws, ensuring the organization develops appropriate policies and implements systems that are legally compliant

  • Superior Knowledge of and extensive experience working in various Applicant Tracking Systems including Taleo and Workday.

  • Strong client focus with superior communications and negotiation skills.

  • Strong business acumen; keep abreast of market trends and track the competition.

  • Proficiency in successfully handling and resolving issues, disagreements and disputes that impact or impede relationships between recruiting team and clients or external partners.

  • Experience developing and implementing Talent Acquisition process improvements.

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with diverse client group experience.

  • Successful track record of managing a team directly across multiple locations.

  • Experience working with current Talent Acquisition best practices and industry trends.

  • Hands on knowledge of TA and Recruitment Technology tools integrated with core HR systems.

  • Experience leading executive search.
