The Position

Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

The primary duties of this position involve the coordination and implementation of non-game wildlife management in the northwestern region, based out of the Winnemucca NDOW office. This position is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and summarizing data into various reports. The incumbent is also responsible for species and habitat management, wildlife resource review activities with the NDOW Technical Review Program, coordinating with partners, coordinating with the Conservation Education Division on education and outreach, and assisting with coordination of endangered species management and recovery actions. This position works on a variety of taxa including mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles, with surveys, monitoring efforts, and management activities potentially shifting from year to year. This position also assists with detailed data analysis, population monitoring, habitat management, coordination with federal and state partners and implementing the goals and actions within the State Wildlife Action Plan. The position is part of a dynamic team working collaboratively across the state on wildlife conservation and management both within the Division and the Department as a whole. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and one year of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR one year of experience as a Biologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Notes

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.

Special Requirements

Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
