Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher for Waksman Institute of Microbiology.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs research in an externally funded program, reporting to the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Conducts supervised research, analyzes and interprets findings, prepares figures, presents research findings, and collaborates with lab members.
  • Manages and organizes laboratory.
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
  • Trains new personnel in lab procedures and operations.
  • Acts as liaison between the PI and members of the lab, vendor sales representatives, REHS safety staff, and administrative support within the Waksman Institute.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have prior biological laboratory experience and familiarity with molecular biology techniques including DNA subcloning, purification, transformation, and PCR.
  • Must understand the fundamentals of genetic analysis.
  • Must have the ability and desire to learn new techniques, and to train personnel in lab techniques.
  • Must be technically skilled.
  • Must also have the ability to read, understand, and evaluate scientific protocols and scientific literature in the biological sciences.
  • Must have basic working ability and experience with computers.
  • Must be well organized and able to communicate effectively with the PI and other members of the lab.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with Drosophila and/or using molecular genetic approaches in model organisms.
  • Course work in genetics, molecular and cellular biology, and neuroscience.
Equipment Utilized
  • PCR machines, electrophoresis equipment, stereomicroscopes, compound epifluorescence microscopes, laser scanning confocal microscopes, autoclaves, Apple computers.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Able to stand, lift 25lbs and flexibility bending in small spaces.
