University of Rochester Laboratory Technician III in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of biomedical and electrical engineers, neuroscientists and cognitive scientists. This person will perform complex and varied research laboratory assignments. These assignments will include scheduling of human subjects for experiment participation and collecting both psychophysical and neurophysiological measures from those subjects. While the work will be carried out under the general supervision of the PI or a lab manager, the successful candidate is expected to work independently, making decisions about running EEG and psychometric experiments on human subjects. This involves complex procedures such as measuring brain activity using EEG equipment and ensuring quality of recordings. The candidate will perform data collection, data entry, simple data analysis, and stimulus paradigm coding. He or she will be responsible for tending to human subjects during experimental procedures and assisting with maintaining supplies and cleanliness of the lab. The successful candidate will also participate in regular meetings with the PI and other lab members.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Plan and perform a variety of complex laboratory tests including EEG recording, andconducting of psychometric experiments; modify standard equipment to meetspecial requirements. 30%

  • Perform data entry; collect accurate data from experiments and record experiments’progress; manage subjects' data and prepares reports. 30%

  • Assist with maintaining paperwork regarding ethical protocols and subject data. 20%

  • Perform simple data analysis for behavioral and neurophysiology experiments.Produce figures for publications. 5%

  • Operate computer and write code for stimulus presentation computer software;write protocols when needed. 5%

  • Order supplies and equipment, keep inventory up to date, maintain the order andcleanliness of the lab. 10%

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Cognitive Neuroscience, Biology or Psychology, (at either Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level). They will have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience managing a lab will be a decided advantage. As will experience with EEG data collection. Competence with MATLAB software and an ability to analyze data is not required, but would be beneficial.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 15.38 - $ 21.54 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
