University of Rochester Laboratory Technician IV (S) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

A lab technician IV position is open immediately in Dr. Xinping Zhang laboratory in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The job consists of a series of highly specialized technical work that centers on bone tissue repair and regeneration, including mouse management, small animal recovery surgery, bone progenitor cell isolation and culturing, tissue harvesting and processing, as well as performing imaging and image analyses. This technical position will require basic computer skills, excellent organizational skills, training of entry level staff, and the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and students. Hours are flexible, but require a 40-hour work week. (Mon.-Fri.)

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Management of mouse colonies including breeding and separation/organization of mouse colonies, maintaining mouse inventories and working with lab members to keep in compliance with the rules set by vivarium (20%).

  2. Developing breeding strategies and performing mouse genotyping for multiple projects within the labs (20%).

  3. Learns and performs various imaging techniques including multiphoton laser scanning microscopy and image analyses on bone tissue and blood vessels (20%).

  4. Plans and conducts experiments related to bone repair and regeneration including harvesting and culturing bone marrow cells, and assisting postdoc and students with scaffold preparation and implantation (20%).

  5. Development of laboratory protocols for immunofluorescence staining, multiphoton imaging, RNA isolation and RNA based analyses. Maintains electronic inventory records of primers, antibodies, chemicals and other inventory (10%).

  6. Conducts general lab maintenance, and keep order and cleanness of the laboratory (5%).

  7. Assists with preparation of tissue specimens including: sample harvesting, decalcification, embedding (paraffin and frozen) (5%).

Requirements:

Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 4-5 years specialized work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 18.89 - $ 26.44 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
