University of Rochester Laboratory Technician IV (S) in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The employee at this position will be responsible for carrying out research procedures involving mouse genotyping and handling as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques. Moreover, self-motivation, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position. The employee will perform and co-ordinate multiple tasks on a daily basis. They will also ensure maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Overseeing mice used in the lab including routine and non-routine breeding colonies, genotyping, surgeries, tissue collection and other experiments as needed. This will involve performing specialized procedures on mice, and maintaining records, data collection, and analysis.

  • Performing ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR or related techniques and cell culture.

  • Helping fellows, students, and trainees with the methods and techniques used in the lab

  • Maintaining standard protocols, troubleshooting, and modifying them as needed.

  • Assisting in the preparation of posters, manuscripts and grants. Ordering laboratory supplies as well as maintaining an accurate electronic inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals and reagents.

  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline (preferably Biology) required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science required

  • 3-4 years specialized experience in related field required

  • Previous work experience in a research lab highly preferred;

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Preferred:

  • Mac, PC, and MS Office. GraphPad Prism, Pipettes, gel apparatus, incubator shaker, centrifuges, -80 freezer, Barnstead Water Units, NuAire Bio-safety cabinet, dissecting microscopes, various surgical instruments, PCR machine, down draft tables, perfusion apparatus, CO2 euthanasia stations, ventilated rodent housing racks.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 18.89 - $ 26.44 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
