University of Rochester Laboratory Technician IV (S) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing direct research support for multiple immunology research projects in the Kim Lab, Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology. We require a very well-organized and highly motivated individual who seeks to contribute substantially to the overall research mission of the lab. Must be able to work both independently and in support capacity with other lab members. The ideal candidate will be technically proficient and possess good critical, analytical and communication skills. Primary responsibilities are described below. Weekend work will be required at times, based upon experimental schedules. Interest and willingness to learn new techniques are an essential job component.

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise responsibility for project performance and accountability for progress; and/or personally perform advanced scientific and medical research work, suggesting modifications to, or improvements in, design of research projects.

  • Plan and coordinate assigned research projects, which may be limited as segment of larger project.

  • Manage a mouse colony within the Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology. This includes record keeping, breeding and genotyping.

  • Organize the laboratory: order supplies, research new equipment/reagents, keep financial records or' laboratory expenses, organize and participate in routine lab maintenance. Coordinate service support: repair of equipment, requisitioning of supplies and research materials.

  • Attend and participate in weekly lab meetings and relevant group meetings.

  • Prepare computer programs, spreadsheets, reports, database entry, charts, graphs, tables, illustrations, and assist in the preparation of materials for publication.

  • May review, analyze and integrate technical work of others; assist in student and staff laboratory training

  • Additional duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 4-5 years specialized experience in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 18.89 - $ 26.44 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
