Northwestern State University College of Nursing and School of Allied Health seeks an applicant for a 9-month full-time faculty position for the Associate/Bachelor of Science degree programs in nursing available in Shreveport beginning Fall Semester 2023.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in nursing required, doctorate preferred (required for academic rank of Associate Professor).

  • Eligible for membership on undergraduate and/or graduate faculty.

  • Unencumbered licensure status as an RN or APRN in the state of Louisiana; or eligible for Louisiana licensure.

  • At least three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.

  • At least three (3) years of nurse educator experience; three (3) or more preferred.

  • Able to establish positive relationships with colleagues and students.

  • Shall be proficient or capable of becoming proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling.

  • Able to pass a background check.

  • Shall meet the required standards defined by the University.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform faculty responsibilities in a large, nursing education department at Northwestern State University located on the Shreveport Campus.

  • Assist with program expansion in Natchitoches and surrounding areas.

  • Teach all classes in a manner that will fully promote academic excellence.

  • Provide instruction in areas of expertise.

  • Evaluate student learning experiences.

  • Serve as a role model to students and peers.

  • Reflect on the university in a positive manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding faculty and students in accordance with federal laws and program and university policies.

  • Assist with maintenance of records and files pertinent to the College of Nursing.

  • Assist with the development, evaluation and revision of policies and procedures within the College of Nursing.

  • Attend College of Nursing and/or university functions and committee meetings as assigned.

  • Maintain required regular office hours and excellent attendance.

  • Advise and counsel students during office hours and/or at other times and settings as needed.

  • Participate in activities that promote the College of Nursing, including those that may occur in the evenings, out of town and/or on the weekend.

  • Be flexible, collaborative, and cooperative about all college and university activities, maintaining a positive, respectful, and supportive attitude.

  • Recruit students to all programs within the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health.

  • Serve as a Liaison between the College of Nursing and other university departments as well as local, state, and national agencies and professional organizations.

  • Comply with university, state, SACSCOC, ACEN, CCNE and/or other guidelines as required.

  • Serve on department or college-wide committees and/or state level committees/boards on behalf of NSU CON.

  • Represent the college and university positively in interactions with professional and academic groups at local, state, and national levels.

  • Utilize a variety of proven teaching methods appropriate to student population and targeted domain of learning.

  • Participate in periodic review of course materials, including development of course reports.

  • Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continuing professional development and pursuit of scholarly activities including teaching pedagogy, grant writing, research, scholarly publication, and presentations.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to College of Nursing's goals, values, and objectives.
