Burrell Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide all services and functions within Preferred Family Healthcare Code of Conduct; adhere to all company policies for employment.

  • Demonstrate understanding of health service systems and assist program participants in identifying, securing and sustaining a range of resources needed to facilitate independent healthy living.

  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the development of the family plan based on individualized strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences of the family served; ensure implementation of family plan with assistance and support from team members and community resource providers.

  • Conduct appropriate assessments to aid in the development of the individualized family plan.

  • Enga g es families in the wellness process by fostering natural supports, providing education, monitoring development of skills, and coaching on family plan action steps. Ser v e as family advocate in agency and community settings and guide families concerning agency interactions, benefits, and programs.

  • Facilitate the wraparound process and encourage children's / youth's active participation in Wraparound meeting or other service-related meetings.

  • Become completely familiar with each family's plan to initiate teaching and support interventions and assist families to obtain goals; monitor and document progress.

  • Use judgment to identify available options for agencies as appropriate to meet a particular family's needs;

  • Develop a positive, non-judgmental relationship with each child and family member, modeling appropriate behavior while acting as a role model for them.

  • Facilitate presentations to community g roups or other agencies regarding local resources, services, and youth group activities.

  • Assist families With learning skills for successful health management and self-advocacy Monitor and assess program participants' functioning and progress;

  • update team members with information relevant in supporting the physical wellness plan goals.

  • Assist team members with brokering of community resources and linkage to family members and family support.

  • Plan and implement recreational, educational, r other activities promoting families' collective wellness.

  • Participate in organizational processes, as directed by the Project Director, which may include quality assurance, peer record review, and health / safety activities

  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health services.

  • Knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental illness and / or substance abuse disorders and how to access the various community resources available.

  • Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses.

  • Some knowledge of training techniques and practices used in a mental/behavioral health setting.

  • Aptitude to evaluate services within assigned program and give input.

  • Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively verbally and in writing to produce clear and concise reports.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Must meet the state qualifications required to obtain the PRSS credential

  • Documented experience in the area of case management series is preferred

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias Learning at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Staff is required to successfully complete 40 hours of prescribed classroom training with two (2) weeks following employment or demonstrate that they have previously received the certification training.

  • A valid driver's license , current auto insurance, reliable personal transportation and an acceptable driving record and are required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
