The Sr. Hardware Quality Engineering Manager (QEM) is responsible for ensuring that our products are designed for quality and continue to meet our customers’ high expectations during the life of the product. This QEM will focus on product quality after our initial product launch. The successful candidate will establish quality goals and monitor performance, investigate the full suite of failure analysis leading to root cause determination and subsequent closed loop corrective action. Leads quality lesson’s learned and institutes remedies to prevent reoccurrence of quality issues and possess a high sense of urgency when managing critical issues. Their responsibility will require knowledge across a broad scope of quality, from factory process controls to customer service complaint handling.

Key job responsibilities

The QEM will be responsible for identifying risks and working with the appropriate product development and sustaining engineering functions to ensure the critical and high risk items are resolved in shipping product and don’t make it into next generation product.

In addition to the work done in the Sustaining phases, the QEM will drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the job, be able to deal with ambiguity, and influence at all levels of the company. In this role, you will:

• Understand the technology and functionality of consumer electronic products, and be able to assess the risk to a negative customer experience, so that it can be prevented during development

• Be an expert in advanced quality methods and protocol

• Lead cross-functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives

• Utilize your comprehensive knowledge of standards, related disciplines, company strategy and goals, to ensure a positive customer experience

• Deliver solutions to complex problems through in-depth data analysis and forensics by using methodical approaches, along with experience, innovation and judgment to make decisions that may be based on partial information

• Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and be able to communicate recommended solutions to the product development team, all the way up through the executive leadership of the company

• Align cross-functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy

• Create standards around which others will operate and build consensus

• Determine specific quality related functional milestones during NPI

• Analyze field data to determine specific product quality issue

The Quality and Lean Organization, under Lab126 Operations, drives quality excellence throughout the product lifecycle by leading efforts that seek to exceed our customers' expectations.

Basic Qualifications

  • BSME/BSIE/BSEE or related Engineering degree

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering and/or quality role

  • 5+ years of experience with statistical tools

  • Excellent Data Analytics skills and the ability to convey complex data in in simple way

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent

  • 10+ years of working experience in an engineering or quality role

  • 5+ years of practice experience with statistical tools, strong with quality program management

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working with and influencing interdisciplinary teams

  • Understanding of technology, at the system and commodity level as well as software and usability

  • Six Sigma Green/Black belt, ASQ CQE/M/A certifications are highly desired

  • Must be self-motivated/self-directed, is able to manage multiple work streams simultaneously

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
